Connecting the Howlong Community
About Us
Howlong is a lovely community of fabulous people set in a beautiful part of the world. The purpose of this group is to CONNECT HOWLONG COMMUNITY MEMBERS for information, help, support, general well-being and community spirit.
We are a small group of retired Howlong residents who realised that there was no central "information hub" for community members to coordinate the ways they are looking after each other. We know that there are multiple people in the community doing all sorts of kind things for others, but mostly this is being done on an individual basis.
We also realised that there are many people in our community who could do with some assistance - be it just some company during a lonely day, or help with household/garden chores, or help with supplementing their meals as food is so expensive.
The Focus of HCC
If you live or work within 15kms of Howlong, NSW then this group is for you. It is also for you if you have a strong tie to the Howlong community, for example having a family member here.
The Howlong Community Connect Facebook page (www.facebook.com/groups/howlongcommunityconnect) was set up as a place where people can request help from, and offer assistance to, other community members. This assistance can be anything… food/essential items; school items; household products; tech support; transport and social support; or help with everyday tasks, such as household chores, gardening, dog walking, lawn mowing etc. when someone is incapacitated by injury or illness or simply needs a kind gesture or two to brighten their day. All communications on the Facebook page can be done totally anonymously to the general community with only the Admins of HCC knowing who the post or comment has been written by... so that we can then coordinate the relevant communictions.
The group can also be used to connect people for social events or more informal “coffee and chat” meetups.
Please note that it is not a group for buying or selling items. These items can be posted in the dedicated local “goods for sale” group or Facebook Marketplace. If you are giving away an item free of charge, however, please feel free to advertise it on the Facebook page.
It is also not a page for promoting a commercial business, unless it is advertising free or charity fundraising events.
Please always be kind to each other and assume best intent. If you're concerned about something you see on the page, report it to the Admins and we will look into it. If you see something that’s not for you, keep scrolling and please never knock people when they are down.
